Use consistent naming

UTM tags are most useful when names stay consistent. Newsletter, newsletter_email and EmailNewsletter can split one campaign into several messy report rows.

A practical habit is to use lowercase values and underscores for spaces.

Source, medium and campaign matter most

Source tells where traffic came from, such as newsletter or facebook. Medium describes the channel, such as email, social or cpc.

Campaign groups the effort under one readable name. Term and content are optional fields for keywords, placements or A/B variants.
